The people of Ellesmere know how to have fun - so they lay on numerous festivals and events throughout the year - visitors are always welcomed.
If you are in need of some gentle exercise there are a number of circular and short walks that take in the canal towpath, the Castlefields, the Arboretum and, for the more energetic, Ellesmere's sister mere Colemere is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and provides a circular walk through woodland glades right alongside the water's edge.
The Church of St. Mary is worth dropping in to, built by the Knights of St John it has a 15th century carved chapel roof and is an architectural delight. It also has the grave of a man who outlived 7 kings.
The canal and the wharf are only a stone's throw from the town centre, which is, coincidentally, a similar distance from the Mere, so taking in all three is not only very feasible it is positively encouraged!
Also nearby are Colemere local nature reserve, The Brow Golf Course, Old Oswestry Hill Fort, Whittington Castle, Park Hall Countryside Experience, Mythstories Museum of Myth and Fable and Hawkstone Park & Follies.
